Problems while using SanDisk SD Plus card with Windows XP or 2000

An SD card is used by mobile phones, cameras, camcorders and many other such portable devices. It's prime purpose, of course, is to enable safe and convenient storage of any sort of digital data, like pictures, videos, audio clips, etc. Though these cards are compatible with almost all computers, they might encounter few problems with the same. These problems could be in the form of error message(s) or just data inaccessibility. While troubleshooting options, such as formatting, editing the registry, etc., solves many of these problems, it often leads to data loss. At such times if one does not have a back-up to turn to, then you should use an SD Card Recovery Software.

For example, when you are using the SanDisk SD Plus Card with Windows XP or 2000, you may come across some problems. Sometimes an error message might be displayed, at others it might just not function 'normally'.

Cause:

Two main reasons for the problem could be improper installation of drivers or SD card corruption..

Resolution:

Follow the steps below to resolve the problem:

1.In case of improper installation of drivers, follow the underneath steps:

Unplug the SanDisk SD card from your system.
Make sure you have a backup of the registry. (from the 'Start' menu, select 'Run', type 'regedit' and click OK, from the registry menu, select 'Export', and name the file). Save it to your desktop.
Run 'REGEDIT32' using the 'Start' > 'Run' option. Remove the below listed entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\DeviceClasses\{a5dcbf10-6530-…}\##?#USBSTOR#Disk&Ven_Sandisk&Prod_SD_..........
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\VID_0781&PID_6100
After removing the items from the registry, restart the computer.

Once the computer has restarted, insert the SanDisk SD Plus card. It should work fine now. However, if it still gives some problems, then your memory card is corrupted. In such situations, you will need to format the card in your computer. This enhances the usage between the computer and the card. Remember to select the FAT file system while formatting the card.

Whether you format the card, or lose the data during any other step in the process, you can always recover the lost files using an SD Card Recovery Software. These tools should be carefully chosen, as fake one's could cause further problems. The tools perform SD Card Recovery even from formatted and corrupted cards.

Photo loss due to formatting of the Hard Drive

Photographs, no matter where and how they were taken, end up getting uploaded to our hard drive. Many of us even store all the photos on our computer's hard drive. These hard drives often need to be formatted due to various logical corruption issues. Formatting a hard disk basically involves preparing it for usage by deleting all its previously stored data.. However, before doing so, one is always advised to create a duplicate copy of all the photographs stored thereon. Photo Recovery can be performed by using third-party tools, even when there is no back-up available.

A common instance of this is when your hard drive is infected with a fatal virus. While you can use an adequate anti-virus software to remove the deadly virus, the possibilities of its existence still remain. For complete removal of virus, you go ahead and format your hard drive. By the time you realize your mistake, it's too late to know that your photos and other files have been deleted.

Why do photos get deleted after formatting a hard disk?

A photograph is stored just like any other file is stored in sectors on the platters of the hard disk. The file system of the storage device enables the computer to use the storage space (sectors) and organize the data stored thereon.

When the hard disk is formatted, a new file system is set-up, thus preparing the platter to be used. When a used drive is re-formatted, almost all the data from the old file system is deleted. A new file system is then set-up in place of the old one. This new file system will seldom contain information from the old file system.

How to Recover Lost Photos?

For easy and systematic recovery of lost pictures, images, and other media file after hard drive formatting, a powerful Photo Recovery Software acts as a boon. The Photo Recovery tool is completely non-destructive in nature as it performs recovery without deleting or modifying the data stored on your formatted hard drive. The software comes with interactive user-documentation that makes it easy-to-understand and implement.

Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery is a Photo Recovery Software which can Recover Lost Photos. The tool can be used on both, Mac and Windows machines. It supports all multimedia file formats including; JPEG, TIFF, RAW, MOV, WMA, AVI, GIF, etc. The software is easy-to-use but extremely safe and efficient, allowing users to recover data themselves quickly, without the help of any 'expert'.

Tips to handle Memory Cards

A memory card can be corrupted while you are saving, deleting, or opening data in the memory card. However, understanding the reasons of memory/flash card corruption can help you to prevent loss of data stored in your memory card. Below are some tips that enable you to save your memory card from getting corrupted:

Always switch off the digital camera before inserting or removing a memory card.
Do not switch off your digital camera while a photo is being saved on your memory card.
Always have your battery full when you want to transfer your data from your memory card to your system or vice-versa.
Always format your memory card in the digital camera, instead of your computer.
Stop taking pictures when your memory card is full.
Always wait for a picture to store in your memory card and then click the next one.
Always wait for a picture to store in your memory card and then click the next one.
Never rename, open, delete, or move files on the memory card while its contents are open on your system.

The above tips enable you to save your memory card from getting corrupted in most cases. However, if you have not followed any of the above tips and your memory card has been corrupted, then the best way is to restore your data from an updated backup. However, if you have not maintained any backup or backup is unable to restore the required data, then you will need to use efficient memory card recovery software.

Canon CRW Photo Recovery

Canon Cameras use the CRW file format for storing images. These are RAW image files which save pictures without applying any in-camera compression to them. The files are stored on memory cards which are highly prone to corruption. The slightest mistake during the read-write process of the card causes corruption. Taking a back-up of the card data, i.e., the photos, videos, etc., is the best prevention for permanent data loss. These back-ups, however, are not always accessible to the user. In such situations, one should use a Photo Recovery Software to recover lost or deleted pictures and videos.

For example, you have a new Canon camera, and you decide to change the memory card used in it. You pull out the memory card currently in use and replace it with a new one.

Later when you try to upload pictures from the old memory card, you find that all your pictures on it are inaccessible. You get error messages saying that the memory card is corrupt or that the card needs formatting.

Cause:

The above problem occurs due to errors during the read-write process of the data. When this process is interrupted mid-way, the card tends to get corrupted. This process could have been interrupted in several ways:
When the card is pulled out from the camera while pictures are still being written to it.
When the camera is on and the card is pulled out.
When the camera is switched off immediately after clicking photos.
In all the above cases the read-write process gets broken off. This causes the photos thereon to become inaccessible.

Resolution:

The first thing to do when a card is giving trouble, and the pictures and files thereon are still accessible, is to back-up the data on it. This back-up should preferably be taken on another storage device and not the same one.

You can then try and format the card. After formatting the card, pictures, videos, and other data on it become inaccessible, you can use a Photo Recovery Software to Recover Lost Photos. Not all software support CRW file, which are generated by Canon cameras.

While selecting the software to perform recovery, ensure that you select a trustworthy, well reputed tool. There are umpteen make-believe applications that damage the files while recovering them.

Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery is a Photo Recovery Tool developed to safely recover photos from all kinds of storage devices—Memory Cards, External Hard drives, Digital Cameras, Computer hard drives, etc. The software works on both Windows and Mac OS. It supports all popular camera file formats; CRW, CR2, NEF, ORF, SR2, MRW, etc.

Photo Recovery Software for Nikon Coolpix S100pj Supporting Memory Cards

The compact digital camera Nikon Coolpix S100pj with features including a 12.10 megapixel CCD, a 5.00x zoom lens, a 2.7 inch LCD of 230,000 dot, 80-6400 ISO, a maximum aperture varying from f/3.9 to f/5.8, a built-in projector, has, besides its 36MB built-in memory, SDHC and SD cards for its storage media. As is the case with any other sort of external storage devices, data lost or deleted from SD cards are lost or deleted for good, because they when deleted do not go to the Trash or Recycle Bin to get recovered.

We usually use data backup program built-in on all computers and some recent digital camera models. However, if this ready-made facility cannot help, we have only to use certain memory card recovery software.

Suppose, if you have stumbled on your USB cable kicking the plug out from its port, or switched your camera off accidentally, or removed your card from the camera, or it has accidentally popped out from your camera while you are viewing photos on your camera or transferring them to your PC, it is certain that some logical damage has been caused to your card making it corrupt and unusable. Even if you try to access the card again and again, some error message like 'This memory card cannot be used', 'Card may be damaged', or 'Insert another card' repeatedly on your monitor.

The card unusable, you are at a loss. Only what you can do is rather to reformat the card to make it usable again, only to delete all your data on it right away. Then, have you lost your photos? No. You can recover your photos by running a data backup. But, make sure you do nothing to write any new data on the card, otherwise your photos will most probably get overwritten. Overwritten data can never be recovered.

If data backup program cannot serve the purpose, you need to use some powerful digital card recovery software. Card data recovery applications apply highly advanced methods to cater to complex memory card data recovery needs of the time.

Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery v3.2
comprehensively recovers lost multimedia files of various formats from almost all storage media. Compatible with Windows and Apple Mac operating systems, this card data recovery application saves the recovered data in a user-specified location without modifying or overwriting the original files.

Resolve Memory Card Corruption due to sudden camera shut down

A memory card is used in almost all media devices. Today, a lot of compressed file formats are available to help us store more on one memory card. The point of storing data from either your camera or cell phone to the memory card is so that when the time comes, you can easily transfer the data to the system or better still, you can store the data on that tiny little device. One should always ensure to take a back-up of some sort, just in case something goes wrong. However there is no need to get crushed if no back up is available. At such times use a card recovery software to redeem your pictures.

Storing pictures, videos, etc on a computer becomes problematic for camera lovers. It's not safe nor does it have the capacity to store all the pictures. This gives most users the notion that a memory card is the safest!

A simple instance of when a memory card gives trouble is while transferring pictures from the camera to the computer. The worst thing that can happen, is for the camera battery to run out, leading to the camera shutting down on it's own. When you recharge the battery and reconnect the camera, you get the message saying that the card is corrupt, leaving your photos inaccessible.

The camera writes pictures and videos to the memory card. When a camera shuts down while the data is being transferred to the computer, the memory card gets corrupted due to incomplete writing of the data.

At such times most people get disheartened and give up hope. They simply accept the fact that their pictures are lost and 'move on' to either reformat the old card or buy a new card. This fact that corrupted pictures cannot be recovered is again a wrong notion. This can easily be done by performing a card data recovery using a card recovery software. These software salvage card data by scanning the card's drive for information. This information is not really deleted (it's only marked as deleted) and so special tools can read it.

Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery is a reliable card recovery tool. This tool is powerful and scans and recovers pictures without causing any damage to them. It can salvage data from all sorts of memory cards; SD Cards, Flash Cards, etc. The software gives you a preview of the recoverable data.

Pulling out the SD Card from the computer

SD Card Recovery

Secure Digital (SD) cards are Flash memory storage devices. They are widely used in all kinds of electronic media—computers, laptops, cameras, cell phones etc. The basic point is where there is technology, there are bound to be some technical mis-haps. Often small mistakes of ours (pulling out the card wrongly, accidentally formatting the card, etc), cause big problems. If you have a back-up at such times, you're spared the trauma of losing those pictures saved on the card. But when you don't have a back-up, or it's inaccessible, you tend to worry and get upset. At such times you should use an SD Card Recovery Software.

For example, when you remove the card from the camera, and then connect it to the computer to transfer photos. You see the content on your computer screen, then pull out the card presuming that the data has been transferred. Then you realize that the data was not transferred and try to re-connect the card to give it a second shot, but the pictures are not accessible now.

The photos are inaccessible because the card is corrupt. The reason for this is incomplete writing of the data from the memory card to the system. All hard drives have two principles on which data is transferred—Read and Write. The information is read from one disk and written onto the other. In this particular case, the data is read from the memory card and written to the computer hard disk. During this process, the card need to be connected to the system. Pulling out the card early breaks this process and thus your images are rendered lost.

This still doesn't mean your pictures are gone for good. You need to format the card to salvage your images. Formatting a used card means that all the data previously stored on it gets erased. After formatting the card, use a SD Card Recovery Software to perform a card recovery. This can be done by simply downloading the tool from the Internet, and then running it on the computer while the card is connected to it. These are utility software which have been designed for precisely this purpose. They scan the hard drive and retrieve all images from it. Once this is done, you can save them to a new folder or anywhere else you wish.

Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery is a card recovery tool which enables users to safely salvage data stored on their SD cards. The software gives thumbnail previews of the files which can be recovered, so you can select the one you want. It supports JPG, BMP, GIF, TIFF, PNG etc.
